The client is a sustainable fashion brand that would like to educate
their audience about the dangers of fast fashion,
and specifically, how companies use greenwashing tactics.
Fashion and its supply chain is the third largest polluting industry. It emitted 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, releasing 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, more than the shipping and the aviation industry combined. (World Bank)
More clothing is being produced and discarded than ever before, and this number is only increasing. In an effort to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers, many companies have employed greenwashing tactics to appear more sustainable.
The reality is that these tactics drive the polluting machine that is the fast fashion industry. Coupled with the exploitation of garment workers and the promotion of harmful consumerist culture, change id overdue.
The idea behind this campaign is to shine a light on the hypocrisy of greenwashing. Each year, brands urge consumers to purchase their Earth Day themed products (all wrapped in plastic). This practice is just adding to the mounting pile of clothing that will end up overflowing the streets in countries like Ghana.
