Background

HomeCycle is a startup based in France that allows consumers to rent household appliances instead of buying them. Their goal is to reduce e-waste and promote the adoption of a circular economy for electronic products in France. HomeCycle was in need of graphic design and illustration for various projects, including: refining their visual brand identity; illustrations for their website; graphics for their social media advertisements; and, illustration of their NFT collection in partnership with Erable.

My Roles: Graphic Designer, Illustrator

Brand Design & Website Illustrations

HomeCycle's brand identity is largely inspired by the bold, colorful imagery of comic books. In order to showcase which household appliances would be available for customers to rent, I created an illustration of a kitchen that included all of the appliances available for rent in the signature HomeCycle purple.

Extending the Lifecycle of our Electronic Items

HomeCycle's philosophy is that renting and repairing our household appliances instead of buying and replacing them every few years, we can extend the lifecycle of our products, work towards a circular economy, and ultimately reduce our environmental impact by reducing our e-waste.

This illustration to the right is meant to showcase how HomeCycle is extending the lifecycle of our electronic items.I chose to illustrate the same machine in various households as a GIF, and the original copy to accompany this illustration mentioned how our washing machines could have 9 lives too (like a cat).

NFT Collection

HomeCycle partnered with Erable, who is partnering with brands to create NFT collections to, "fund the ecological transition together." As part of this project, I was tasked with illustrating a NFT Collection for the campaign. Focusing on HomeCycle's premier product, I chose to create a character based on a friendly washing machine that wants to be more sustainable. In addition to various backgrounds and body colors, there were accessories inspired by washing machines settings such as eco, sport, and deep clean. To the right, you can find a reel depicting a quick version of my process creating the NFT collection on Procreate and Adobe Illustrator.

Reflection

As an Intern, I had the opportunity to work with a multicultural team to illustrate complex concepts in a way that allows HomeCycle's customer's to understand and engage with their mission and business offer.

It was my first time experimenting with NFT design and considering the specifications, web3 trends, and design of NFT avatars while illustrating.
